On Friday, June 13, Judy Newton, Chair of the Levy Senior Center Foundation, received recognition by the Evanston community. Ms. Newton was presented with the 2025 Aging Well Award at the June 13th Jamming Jean concert for her and the Foundation’s work to enhance the lives of older adults! Save the date for the LSCF’s weekly Farm Stand Friday beginning June 6 through October 31 from 10 - 11:30 am. This community-focused event is here to support those who may be facing food insecurity or finding it challenging to afford fresh produce. The Farm Stand is a collaboration of the LSCF, Garden Club of Evanston, Evanston Grows, and the City of Evanston. Please remember to bring your tote bag to carry fresh, nutritious produce. Come Enjoy the Rothschild Courtyard Gardens
The Rothschild Courtyard Gardens are in full bloom and look as beautiful as ever! You’ll find the Gardens nestled inside the Levy Senior Center with an abundance of perennial flowers, a water feature, and patio seating. Bring your favorite games and come relax in the courtyard! The Gardens are open during the Levy Senior Center’s hours: weekdays from 8:30 am - 8:00 pm and weekends from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm.
The Levy Senior Center Foundation was thrilled to co-host the 4th annual Hoops for the Ages basketball tournament. This lively, fun-filled day brought together over 350 players, ages 40 to 95+, for some friendly 3-on-3 action. Held at ETHS, the tournament was a great warm-up for the 2025 National Senior Games and a celebration of community, movement, and the joy of playing the game, no matter your age! The LSCF’s Beginner Mosaic Workshop: Garden Art Session 2 with mosaic artist Kristin Dann Conneely, began last week. The workshop dives into the ancient art form of mosaics and allows you to design, create, and grout your very own pieces of garden art mosaics. Registration is full, but we are working to expand our programs. Do you struggle with aspects of your smartphone, tablet, or laptop? Would you like to learn about using QR codes, organizing and sharing your photos, downloading apps, sending emails, or something else? The Levy Senior Center, in partnership with the LSCF, continues to offer appointments for free tech support and training to help you feel more comfortable with your devices. To make an appointment for a 30-minute session in the Levy Senior Center library, call the front desk at (847) 448-8250 today. Appointments are available Tuesdays 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
The LSCF welcomed back storyteller ‘Momma Kemba’ for another Levy Lecture: ‘Momma Kemba’ Portrays Ida B. Wells last week in celebration of Juneteenth! Mark your calendar! The Midwest’s hottest horn band, Brass From The Past, is returning to the Levy Senior Center for a special pop-up Jamming Jean concert! Join us outside the Levy Senior Center in James Park on Friday, September 5, at 5:00 pm for another electrifying performance from one of Chicago’s biggest cover bands. Get ready to dance to the biggest hits of the ‘60s, '70s, and ‘80s. Bring family and friends. Hecky’s Barbeque will be available for purchase—no registration required for this free concert.
Featuring acclaimed speakers, the LSCF's YouTube channel presents previous Levy Lectures and Longevity presentations. The series engages our community on a range of subjects, including improv, storytelling, the politics of Indian removal, and integrative approaches to aging well, among others.
