The Levy Senior Center Foundation is proud to announce that Judy Newton has been honored with the 2025 Corrine Passage Spirit of Evanston Award! Presented annually, this award honors an Evanstonian who, over the past year or throughout their lifetime, has demonstrated a deep commitment to our community through courage, vision, compassion, creativity, kindness, resourcefulness, connectivity, and entrepreneurship. Join us for Endeavor Health and the LSCF’s seventh Health Hub Levy Longevity: Integrative Approaches to Movement Disorders and Parkinsonism. Dr. Debjani Roy is returning for another Levy Longevity, where she’ll explain integrative medicine options for Parkinson’s disease, with emphasis on mind-body modalities, expressive arts- such as music, dance, and evidence-based natural products. The LSCF’s Journey’s End, End of Life Series, with certified end-of-life doula, Shay Springer, is returning with three additional classes. In each class, you’ll explore love, loss, and grief through a new lens. Join us on Wednesdays, October 8, 15, and 22 at 4:00 pm in the Library at the Levy Senior Center for a movie, lectures, and discussions. This program will be held in person and is free to attend, but registration is required. Space is limited, with priority given to LSC members. Registration is FULL.
Endeavor Health and the LSCF are partnering to bring you Yoga for the Heart with Claire Mark. Join us in the Locust Room at the Levy Senior Center for this 7-session class on Tuesdays Oct. 7 – Nov. 18, from 3:30-4:30 pm. Each session will cover Pranayama (Breathwork), Gentle Warm-Ups, Asana (poses), and Guided Relaxation for Meditation. The class can be done standing or seated (chair yoga). Chairs, blocks, blankets, and bolsters will be provided. Registration is FULL.

Do you struggle with aspects of your smartphone, tablet, or laptop? Need help utilizing FaceTime or Zoom, scanning QR codes, organizing and sharing your photos, downloading apps, sending emails, or even navigating patient care portals and hospital websites? Tech Tuesdays can help you with a variety of issues you may be experiencing. The Levy Senior Center, in partnership with the LSCF, continues to offer appointments for free tech support and training to help you feel more comfortable with your devices. To make an appointment for a 30-minute session in the Levy Senior Center library, call the front desk at (847) 448-8250 today. Appointments are available Tuesdays 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
Are you interested in strength training, but unsure where to start? Are you worried you might get hurt without proper guidance? Do you have a fear of falling and want to feel more stabilized as you move? Shaun Zetlin will take your fears away with an easy-to-follow fitness program that includes stability, strength, and power exercises. Join us on Tuesday, October 14, at 1:30 pm online via Zoom, when Shaun Zetlin will explain a series of gentle bodyweight exercises that can be increased with strength progression, and can be performed in your own home! Join us in Bobby’s Room at the Levy Senior Center on Tuesday, October 21, at 4:00 pm for a 40-minute preview of the 2025-26 season! Tanya Palmer, Executive Artistic Director of Northwestern’s Wirtz Center, will discuss the season that celebrates individual courage in the face of systems and institutions that seek to diminish their characters’ humanity. Are you interested in talking with young people? Talking Benches, an opportunity to engage in intergenerational conversations, is returning! The program will be held at the Levy Senior Center in the Elm Room on the following Tuesdays: Oct. 14, 28, Nov. 18, and Dec. 9, from 4:15 to 5:30 pm. Older adults will be paired with high school students who will come prepared with a list of questions; be prepared with your own list as well! Each conversation will last about 30 minutes before participants rotate. The students are eager to hear about your life! Registration is FULL.
Do you enjoy word games in a fun collaborative setting? The LSCF is launching a pilot program with Northwestern Student, Sarah Serota, called Bring Back Scrabble, where Levy Senior Center members will bond through games of speed, strategy, and skill with tile-based word games such as Scrabble and Bananagrams. The program will be held at the Levy Senior Center on the following Fridays: September 26, October 3, 10, and 17, from 1:30 – 3:00 pm. Bring Back Scrabble is a collaborative club for word game enthusiasts looking to have fun and sharpen their skills – no expertise is needed! Rothschild Gardens
The Rothschild Gardens are in full bloom and look as beautiful as ever! You’ll find the Gardens nestled inside the Levy Senior Center with an abundance of perennial flowers, a water feature, and patio seating. Bring your favorite games and come relax in the courtyard! The Gardens are open during the Levy Senior Center’s hours: weekdays from 8:30 am - 8:00 pm and weekends from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm.
Keep your mind sharp and spirit strong with the sixth Health Hub Levy Longevity: Integrative Approaches to Brain Health with Dr. Geeta Maker-Clark. Dr. Clark will discuss how to support your brain health using simple, evidence-based strategies that go beyond medication. Join us on Wednesday, October 15, at 1:30 pm in the Locust Room or online via Zoom to learn how nutrition, movement, quality sleep, mindfulness, connection, and purpose can protect memory and cognition at every age. In this 90-minute interactive lecture, you'll explore how to bring your memories to life on the page. Through simple guided writing prompts and short examples from books and memoirs, you'll look at how small details—like a smell, a sound, or a texture—can help unlock powerful personal stories. Fall 2025 High Lights
Writing Workshops
The LSCF and Northlight Theatre are partnering again to bring you two fall writers’ workshops: a 6-class creative writing workshop and a 6-class playwrighting workshop. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just starting up, these workshops are for you! At the end of both workshops, you'll have the opportunity to submit a piece of your writing to our seasonal High Lights Booklet. Both workshops will be held virtually. Please note that on our Levy Special Events page, the workshops are listed separately. Registration is FULL.
Save the date for the LSCF’s weekly Farm Stand Friday beginning June 6 through October 31 from 10 - 11:30 am. This community-focused event is here to support those who may be facing food insecurity or finding it challenging to afford fresh produce. Through September, Curt’s Café will be on site to serve coffee for up to 50, with decaf and regular options available. The Farm Stand is a collaboration of the LSCF, Garden Club of Evanston, Evanston Grows, and the City of Evanston. Please remember to bring your tote bag to carry fresh, nutritious produce. We look forward to seeing you there!
