A wide range of resources exist for older adults in the Evanston community. While many programs are available to all adults age 55+, some programs have specific age and/or income requirements. The Levy Center serves as a hub for important information and can help assist in directing residents to the right resources.

Benefit Card

The Benefit Card makes programs more accessible to seniors and allows cardholders to receive a discount at participating Evanston businesses. Residents may qualify or re-qualify for certain benefits in the community, such as Subsidized Taxicab Program, Wheel Tax Discount (formerly Vehicle Sticker), Recreation Program Fee Assistance, Yard Waste Stickers & Cart Discount, and the Handyman Program.

You may apply for an Evanston Benefit Card at the Levy Senior Center from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the week. Please bring proof of age, income, and Evanston residency. (i.e. drivers license, state ID, last year's income tax return OR social security award letter).

Wheel Tax

The City of Evanston provides a discount on the City Wheel Tax prices to Evanston income-eligible seniors over the age of 65 and residents who qualify for Illinois Benefit Access due to disability. Evanston Benefit Card cardholders receive a discount of 50% off the cost of one vehicle per household.

Cardholders may pay their wheel tax at the City Collector’s office, Levy Senior Center or Fleetwood Jourdain Center and receive a discount by simply showing their Evanston Benefit Card.

Reduced Fare Card

Overview: The RTA Reduced Fare Card enables senior citizens who are within three weeks of their 65th birthday or older, qualified veterans, and qualified persons with disabilities to ride all RTA services at a reduced rate. Senior citizens must apply in person at a designated Senior Center (including the Levy Senior Center).

You must have the following to apply for a RTA Reduced Fare Card:
· Driver's license, State of Illinois ID card, alien registration card OR passport.
· Wallet-sized color photo (no hats, scarves or sunglasses). The Levy Center will take your photo at no charge during office hours.
